Disease Education

Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer)

Symptoms

Kidney cancer is a slow-growing cancer. Kidney cancer begins inside the body without any obvious external signs, and consequently often remains undetected. The first indication of kidney cancer is usually blood in the urine, that makes the urine appear slightly rusty to deep red.

Other symptoms of kidney cancer may include:

  • Pain in the side that does not go away
  • A lump or mass on the side of the abdomen
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • A general feeling of tiredness or poor health

The presence of these symptoms does not always indicate that you have kidney cancer. However, if any of these symptoms are present along with any other kidney cancer risk factors, it's important to see your doctor. Early detection of kidney cancer greatly improves the likelihood of successful treatment.
