Acromegaly

Acromegaly can affect both physical appearance and general health. Changes that affect appearance can be subtle and happen over the course of several years. Some of the early signs and symptoms of acromegaly can easily be mistaken for aging or symptoms of other diseases.

There are many potential signs and symptoms of acromegaly, but most patients generally only display a few of the following:

• Gradual enlargement of the hands and feet
• Swelling of soft tissue
• Menstrual cycle disturbances/impotence
• Sweating
• Headaches
• Vision problems
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Muscle weakness/fatigue
• Joint pain
• Sinus congestion
• Sleep apnea
• Skin changes, including thickening, oiliness, acne, or tags
• Coarsening of facial features, including forehead, nose, lips, tongue, jaw
